you are living your story

9.19.2012

makai playing with his favorite toys (he has an undying love for trains and tractors) both of which are from garage sales. seriously though, a john deer tractor for 3 bucks?! it's true, i'm slowly becoming my mother! it might be a while before i pull a perfectly good toy out of someones trash but i am my mothers daughter, so i shouldn't be surprised if and when it does happen.
things can get so crazy when grocery shopping with a toddler that those little moments of contentment are what make you feel like you're a really good mom.
then, moments later, the sippy cup is tossed overboard and the crayons and snacks are chucked to the back of the cart. followed by the "all done",  "LETS GO MOMMA" chants screams. you finally reach the finish line and breathe a big sigh of relief only to look over and see a little boy "helping" as he takes each item out of the bags as they are placed in the cart, leaving you to re-bag your groceries in the parking lot. why didn't you stop him as he was doing it? because the lady at the counter was jabbing your ear off about the discount card and you couldn't find your debit card that was stuck between a baby diaper and a half eaten granola bar at the bottom of your purse. the best part....little man flailing his arms as you walk out the door resulting in a hurt finger (no clue how it happened). this is followed by cries and 3 employees gathering around you asking if everything is ok and offering to help you to your car. "no, it's ok.... thanks though". momma pushes the very heavy cart, one handed, down the wrong isle back to the car with a sobbing toddler. as crazy as it seems, all momma could think about is how good it felt to have her little boy's head on her shoulder with his arms tightly around her. he was ok, and she knew that, so she took that rare snuggle and ran with it :)
getting ready can be quite the event around here. makai stealing momma's deoderant yelling "armpits" as he rubs in on the back of his neck. drawing pretty pictures with momma's eyeliner and momma proclaiming she is all done, with a wet bun on the top of her head, because dealing with a screaming toddler while blow drying her hair just isn't worth the headache.
ending the day with an impromptu pizza picnic in front of the fireplace with mommy and daddy on the first cold day of fall. sitting around as a family listening to a little johnny cash on the record player with the occasional break for the boys to run out to the golf course, in the back yard, to look for more sticks.

i have decided that i want more pictures of the day to day.
i want to remember makai's favorite things.
i want to remember what life is like with a toddler.
i want to remember everything that's so quickly passing us by.
let's face it, most of our days are so mundane that it's easy to get lost in the routine.
but there is a story being written in those little moments that happen throughout the day
and that story is the one we are living!
