first birthday bubble party

7.11.2011

We celebrated Makai's first birthday on Saturday! The party was so much fun and we couldn't be happier with the beautiful day we had!!
We hung a homemade banner on our fence just above Makai's monthly photos hung with clothes pins.
The party was a bubble theme. We bought bubble blowers to use as cupcake toppers. We gave each of the kids their own large bubble wand and filled a bucket with homemade bubbles so we didn't have to worry about the little ones getting bubbles in their eyes. We also made photo props out of colored paper and wooden skewers that we had lying around the house. The birthday cake was FREE. VG'S grocery gives little ones a free cake for their first birthday ( thanks Mom)!!
We kept the food simple. I wanted to be sure to enjoy Makai's birthday instead of running around filling bowls and I sure didn't want a lot of clean up post party. So we served a few kinds of chips ( plain, BBQ, veggie straws and goldfish crackers), watermelon, strawberries, blueberries and of course pizza. We filled a large green bucket ( which usually houses Makai's toys) with ice, sprite, root beer, water and juice for the kids.
The Cottage Inn pizza was so good and 4 large fed our group of 20 with a few pieces left over. Leftover pizza post party= one happy Mommy and Daddy!
It was very hot out so along with cake and cupcakes we served Luigi's Italian Ice in lemonade and strawberry. It was a big hit and the perfect fit for a hot summer day.

Dont worry, we did more than eat.....
GG Montgomery and Great Papa! My favorite picture of them...ever!!!

Makai had his first taste of pizza....
 his face speaks for itself!
I was a little surprised with how much fun the kiddos had with party hats.
 Sharing lunch :)

The kids played A LOT with our hammock

Homemade bubbles were perfect for the babes

Our $25 blow up pool = awesome!

Little man found a piece of pizza under the picnic table! I tell ya, this kid could smell food a mile away.
Cake time! He ate the whole cupcake!!
As we sang happy birthday I had to keep from crying. I always dreamed of being a mommy and first birthday party's....I couldn't believe we were living that moment. This beautiful little boy is all ours!!!

Bath in the pool! Why not?!

He sat to open one present then all the kids opened the rest for him...I'm not kidding when I say he is an independent busy body!!
An all time favorite photo of me and my baby boy!!
 Tow Mater!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All the kiddos minus Makai, who was napping. He passed out the second I laid him down.We were beyond happy that Makai's cousins from Texas and Alabama were in town to celebrate with him!!
So happy we were able to sneak in a couple family photos before the end of the day. We were very close to missing this moment.

Post party bubbles. This look...priceless!! I think he had fun at his party!!
