these first few months of the process are the only part we feel we have at least a little control over, so we are trying to move the process along as best as we can.
we have already completed more paperwork than i think i ever did in the 4 years i was in college. we have had our fingerprints done for background checks, just completed our first home study visit and our 3 week tele-class on " becoming a trans-racial and multicultural family". we got makai's physical a couple weeks ago and nate and i got our physicals today. we start 3 more educational courses in the next two weeks and will complete visits 2&3 with our social worker, for the home study, this friday.we have gotten copies of birth certificates, marriage license and hope to get drivers licences with our correct address as well as our passports very soon ( we need copies of them to go with our paperwork, long before we ever travel). there is so much more to add to this list but i'll stop there so you don't hate me for the headache you will have after reading this....
so yeah, these last 6 weeks have been crazy busy and the next couple months will be too, as we hunt down all the forms we need to send to lesotho. but you see, after all this, there is nothing really to do for a while, a long while, but wait and everyone knows waiting is hard. so, for now, we are excited to be chasing after everything we need to bring our little one home.
and for those of you who like to hear about "god moments" we have had a couple already.
you guys, we needed exactly $514 more dollars to pay the $3000 payment to start our home study last friday. ( everything during this process aways has to be paid in full before proceeding). we wrote a check on friday morning, the same day nate got paid, hoping that we would have enough money after bills to pay the difference (after donations and what we had already saved). After all our bills were paid we had EXACTLY $514 dollars left in our account. i mean it, not $515 or $516 we had EXACTLY $514 dollars. i know this because i checked it no less than 4 times. lets just say i cried and then kicked my feet around in some kind of irish looking happy dance.
our home study agency is 45 minutes away and trying to find someone to watch makai in the middle of a work day is difficult if not entirely impossible. well, we just found out that our social worker just so happens to live very close to us, her son goes to school in our same neighborhood. so instead of driving 45 minutes to the agency and nate having to take off 2 more days of work or trying to find someone to watch makai....our social worker is just going to come to our house after dropping her son off at school! insert happy dance #2
